As colour specialist Rami examines my locks (poorly cut, and with roots showing from my last dye job), he says he will do his best to tidy them up, but will be limited in terms of styling because of my too-short layers and colouring history. That said, he promises I’ll love the result.
Step by step
We start with highlights and lowlights, while Rami talks to me about the unusual directions of growth in the front portion of my hair, and advises me on the best way to wear a fringe in the future. Once the foils are in place, he applies a light brown colour to my roots – a stage between my natural colour and the auburn I’ve been growing out, to reduce the appearance of any regrowth. After a thorough wash, we’re back in the chair for a cut – he takes off two inches from the back, but hardly anything from the front. Apparently this is the only way I’m going to get the thickness back.
After a blow-dry with my fringe swept in a new direction, my hair looks healthier and glossy. It’s the most sophisticated I’ve looked since leaving any salon in Dubai – even after I sleep the blow-dry off.
• Rami clearly knows and loves hair, and is full of useful advice.
• The salon is huge and stylish, and feels welcoming and relaxed.
• Free parking is available nearby.
• None to speak of.
